The multiplayer-only survival video game DayZ, developed and published by Bohemia Interactive, has been around for many years. It launched back in 2013, but in 2023 it continues to enthrall fans, and that's in no small part to the constant release of new updates to the game.
Small tweaks, modifications, and content additions arrive with each new update, which normally release every couple of months after a period of testing the test servers.
On this page, we're taking a look at the next big patch coming to the game, in the shape of Update 1.24, which is currently available to test on experimental servers. Read on for everything you need to know about the next update, including its potential release date, new features, and much more.
31 January 2024 - We've checked for the latest news and leaks relating to the upcoming DayZ Update 1.20 patch.
DayZ 1.24 Update Release Date
As mentioned previously, we don't have an exact release time for the next DayZ update, because its impossible to know how long an experimental update will need testing.
That said, we can take a guess based on the previous release schedules (see further down). This leads us to believe that the 1.24 update will roll out in the middle of February 2024. If we had to nail our colors to the mast, we'd speculate that the update will launch on 13 February 2024.
We're fairly confident that we'll see this next update released in February as the developers normally launch their first update of the year in February.
Of course, we may be waiting longer, especially when you consider that the average number of days between DayZ updates (taken from 2020 onwards) is roughly 150 days.
The countdown clock indicates how long we think we have to wait based on our prior prediction.

What's changed in DayZ 1.24 Update?
The latest experimental release for the game marks a thorough cleanup by the developers. Taking a closer look, they've refined the collision geometries of vegetation, particularly trees and bushes, to address issues with vehicle collisions and particle performance when bullets pass through branches.
In terms of gunplay, adjustments have been made to firearm particles for a smoother experience. Some automatic firearms now have slightly increased recoil, and a notable change is the unified approach to randomly spawned firearms, making it impossible to distinguish them from player-dropped ones.
Weapon handling improvements have also been introduced, enhancing the overall experience of close-quarter combat. Notably, the developers have focused on making weapon lifting smoother and more precise, along with improved calculations for weapon lengths.
Although more complex changes to infected AI are on hold, the developers have made tweaks to reduce bullet impact noise, making it more challenging for infected to be drawn to fired bullets. Additionally, blunt melee weapons now deal increased damage to infected and animal AI by factoring in shock damage.
In the realm of survival tactics, a noteworthy enhancement has been made to bandaging. Players with multiple bleed sources can now continuously bandage without interruptions if their bandage stack has enough uses.
This update promises an improved gaming experience with a polished and enjoyable adventure in the experimental branch.
