Don't Get Injured By The Oni
The Oni charges his power with Blood Orbs, which are dropped by injured Survivors. If you don't get injured by The Oni, he'll still passively charge up his power; however, it will take him significantly longer to do so. In other words, you want to prevent The Oni from charging up his power quickly by doing your best to avoid getting injured early in the match. Once he earns his power once, a good Oni player can easily snowball, gaining more subsequent downs in a short amount of time.
Hide, Don't Run, From The Oni
While it's a good idea to start running and make distance the moment you see most Killers rather than wasting time hiding from them, avoiding The Oni doesn't work the same way. He can dash extremely quickly when he has his power, making it not viable to run out in the open or even into many loops.
If you see The Oni running toward you after he has earned his power, don't run - hide. Most Oni players want to make the most of their limited time in Demon Fury, so they will be more likely to quickly dash away from the area, looking for an obvious Survivor working on a generator or cleansing a totem out in the open.
