Seahawks fire defensive coordinator Ken Norton Jr.
RENTON, Wash. — The Seattle Seahawks have fired defensive coordinator Ken Norton Jr. and passing game coordinator Andre Curtis. Seattle never finished higher than 16th in total defense or 11th in scoring defense during Norton’s four-year tenure.
Seattle was 28th in total defense and 11th in scoring defense this season. A bigger issue was Seattle’s weak performance in the turnover battle because of a bend-but-don’t-break defensive mentality.
The Seahawks created just 18 turnovers this season, ranking 25th in the league.

DALLAS (AP) — A Texas prisoner accused of killing 22 older women over two years, preying on them so he could steal jewelry and other valuables, was slain Tuesday by his cellmate while serving a life sentence, prison officials said.
Billy Chemirmir, 50, who was convicted last year in the slayings of two women, was found dead in his cell at a prison in rural East Texas, Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokesperson Hannah Haney said.

British startup powers up sensor for monitoring tiny orbital debris
TAMPA, Fla. — Odin Space is preparing to start detecting tiny but potentially dangerous pieces of orbital debris in the coming weeks from a sensor on a recently launched space tug, according to the British startup’s cofounder and CEO James New.
The venture announced June 27 that it had successfully powered up the demo sensor, integrated with D-Orbit’s small satellite-carrying ION orbital transfer vehicle that SpaceX launched earlier this month to low Earth orbit.

Columbia Sportswear, new restaurant coming to The Village at Meridian
MERIDIAN, Idaho (CBS 2) — The Village at Meridian is getting some new tenants. The shopping, dining and entertainment destination announced on Thursday that Columbia Sportswear is opening its first Treasure Valley store this fall. Columbia will be moving into the building with Century Link and Cafe Zupas in Village North.
In restaurant moves, the Village says Texas de Brazil will open in early 2019 and will be located near The Counter and Z Gallerie.

Lettuce contains a chemical which has an effect on rabbits similar to opium, experts have revealed, which can make them lethargic and give them a euphoric high.
Instead of salad, rabbits should instead be eating a diet which mostly consists of hay, in sharp contrast to the usual image of bunnies munching through a pile of greens.
